MedCity News and Quantum Health have launched an inaugural Benefit Consultant Sentiment Index (The Index): Benefit Consultants’ Perspective on Shifting Employer Healthcare Landscape.

According to the press release, “The Index revealed that the growing complexities of the benefits landscape today require consultants to have broader knowledge and a more hands-on role in healthcare benefits advising, with 63% of consultants reporting their role has changed. The survey also shows where consultants are focusing their self-insured employer clients as employee needs evolve, and what they see as the next chapter in healthcare benefits: “streamlined healthcare journeys” enabled by integrating navigation.”

You might be wondering why a mobile platform company cares about what is happening in the benefits space. That’s a good question. And there is a good answer. Earlier this year Gozio expanded its platform to allow healthcare systems to create unique experiences for consumer groups they serve. That could be different patient groups like labor and delivery or it could be a unique mobile app experience for staff. A staff experience can be a standalone app or part of a larger branded app. We quickly learned that a staff app has a lot of potential to help with HR needs like benefit utilization. This new Index supports that so we were eager to dive into the information.

Here are some highlights from the study that was conducted this past summer:

  • 63% of surveyed consultants believe that digital health point solutions will eventually be consolidated under a single navigation provider.
  • 60% revealed that navigation through an employer’s existing carrier is not meeting their needs.
  • 53% percent of consultants reported they typically guide their self-insured employer clients to independent healthcare navigation companies that have greater expertise, provide unbiased service and deliver better healthcare navigation results.

Another study showed that an employees can have as many as 100 logins they are managing. So it makes sense that being able to consolidate as many solutions as possible into one platform with single sign on capabilities would be the way to move ahead. Employees also spend a lot of time looking for data and tools. According to one survey, they spend as much as 25% of their time searching for things like that.

Importantly, we also believe that the best platform is mobile. Given that almost all Americans now use a Smartphone, it just makes sense that this is the ideal place to put all the HR tools that employees need to access. Read more about the benefits of creating a mobile app experience staff.
